Chapter Three: Formerly Present
ETNA Taipei 2026.2.22 - 3.12
Chapter Three: Formerly Present is the closing chapter of an ongoing series that unfolds in reverse. Starting from the end loosens the sequence of emotion, allowing different stages to come together and be re-digested with space and time. Through this reversal, it draws attention to what remains in the now and continues to stay with us after rupture, failure, or loss.
To notice what endures, this chapter turns toward memory, toward what is often seen as the past. Memories may feel out of reach in the aftermath of disruption, as if there is no longer space for them in the present. Yet as fragments resurface, it becomes clear that memory does not disappear. It may grow muted or distant, but it persists, evolving into part of one’s architecture of who we are. In speaking of the past, the work is ultimately speaking of the present.
Memory is not what we are left with, but what remains with us. This ongoing series is dedicated to loved ones, to those navigating similar experiences, and to those who stand beside them. We are shaped in countless ways, and everything and everyone who forms us continues to move alongside us through time.
